Lately, I have been thinking a lot about personal branding. Having worked with many actors over the last few years I have come to realize that compared to other professions there is a lack of attention on personal branding.
As actors, it is very hard to see ourselves. We are so focused on playing other people it is challenging to be clear on our own image.
This is one of the few areas in our field that we can actually control. What is needed is personal branding for the image impaired.
According to Dorie Clark, marketing strategy consultant, and author of Reinventing You and Stand Out, personal branding is “the way your values and talents are deliberately expressed through your profession, skill set, online presence, communication style, even clothing. Your personal brand represents what you stand for in a way that both defines you and sets you apart.”
So set yourself apart. Get specific. Have a point of view.
Over the next seven weeks, I will post a simple, but powerful personal branding action step each week. Every step builds upon the other.
I promise if you implement these steps you will see significant shifts - not only in your acting business, but in your life.
